So how do air source heat pumps work? To put it very simply, they absorb heat from the air outside, compresses it to create energy and use this to heat your home. Just like a fridge, which draws in air from outside then cools it rapidly, the air source heat pump does the same thing but in reverse.
The ASHP sits outside your home, looks similar to an air conditioning unit. The heat in the air is used to heat a liquid refrigerant which evaporates. The pump then compresses the vapour, increasing the temperature. A heat exchanger is then used to warm water which can be used throughout your home – for hot water, in radiators or underfloor heating.
Unlike gas and oil boilers, air source heat pumps deliver constant heat at lower temperatures over much longer periods. It’s set to start working automatically meaning you’ll always have hot water and is great at maintaining a consistent environment in your property. Gone are the days of juggling the thermostat. But remember: a well-insulated home is essential.
The systems are smart and the intelligent energy efficient control system including via an App allow full control of your homes heating and hot water from anywhere, using your smartphone, tablet or PC. Clever stuff.

What happens next?
When choosing us to install your air source heat pump, we have a clear and transparent process – keeping you fully informed at every stage.
One of our trained assessors will visit your property to design a solution that fits your requirements. At this stage, we look to see if your home is suitable for an air source heat pump and take into consideration the type and size of the property, how it is built and heat loss.
Working with our partners Mitsubishi, we will design a suitable system. Not every home suits an air source heat pump and we will advise you of which systems will work for your property and any adjustments that need to be made.
You will receive our proposal via email. This will be fully costed and bespoke to your property with expected timescales. If you’re happy with the proposal, then we will work with you to arrange the installation.
We request a 25% deposit when you place your order with the balance required on completion. Commissioning is carried out by fully trained MCS accredited engineers.
Stay warm while saving the planet!
After your system is installed, we offer full training and support as well as notifying the MCS installation database which allows you to claim the Government RHI grant for seven years ( for domestic installations) .
